During the stay on our Quinta you can explore the historic town of Silves and the Algarve region. The South and West of the Algarve are delimited by Beaches, which are considered as some of the most beautiful in Europe. To the North, the Monchique Mountains reach 902 m at the Fóia peak and separate the Algarve from the Alentejo. On the eastern border of the Algarve lies the river Guadiana between Portugal and Spain.
The nearest beaches on the south coast are Armação de Pêra, Salgados, and the famous rocky beach 'Praia da Marinha' only 11-20 km away from the Quinta. On the west coast there are many remote beaches, perfect for a day trip.
The Algarve offers many hiking opportunities. A guide with different routes has been developed by the regional tourist office, which you can borrow for free from us or purchase it at the tourist office in Silves.
Silves, with its Moorish castle and Christian-Islamic influence has many historic sights (Silves cathedral, Islamic-Mediterranean cultural center, museums).
Along the Algarve coast, there are caves and limestone formations, which can be reached from the sea. Dolphins can be sighted frequently. In the valley of Arade river many water birds can be viewed including storks and flamingos.
Other activities in the region are cycling, bird watching, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, kite boarding, riding and flying. Two golf courses are in the immediate vicinity of the town of Silves. We can also advise you on some visits in the hinterland (e.g. small handicraft, wooden toys or crib figures) or on the coast (such as the traditional salt production in Tavira).
